PSU LIONS COMPLETED A SUCCESSFUL TRIP SOUTH PICKING UP TWO WINS AGAINST THE GEORGE MASON PATRIOTS. IN THE FIRST CONTEST THE LIONS PUT UP A DOMINATING PERFORMANCE DEFEATING GEORGE MASON 7-3. PSU WOULD SKATE ON OLYMPIC ICE FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON AND THE LARGER ICE SURFACE PLAYED TO PSU'S SPEED ADVANTAGE. FRESHMAN NICK DELAURENTIS WOULD SCORE THE FIRST OF HIS TWO GOALS ON AN ASSIST FROM CONLAN SODROSKY FIVE MINUTES INTO THE GAME. GEORGE MASON WOULD TIE THE GAME ON A POWERPLAY 1:53 LATER, WHEN PSU FAILED TO CLEAR THE ZONE ON THE PENALTY KILL. HOWEVER, THE OPEN ICE AND SPEED ADVANTAGE WOULD NET PSU THREE MORE GOALS BY THE END OF THE FIRST PERIOD. JEFF NELSON WOULD SCORE ON THE POWER PLAY WITH ASSISTS FROM BRIAN KRUSER AND DAVID BRAMLEY AT 11:11. CONLAN SODROSKY WOULD TALLY HIS FIRST GOAL OF THE SEASON ASSISTED FROM BRIAN KRUSER AND LUK DEVORSKI AT 16:35 OF THE FIRST PERIOD. PSU WOULD LEAD 6-1 AT THE END OF TWO PERIODS. GEORGE MASON WOULD SCORE FIRST IN THE THIRD PERIOD CUTTING THE LION LEAD TO 6-2, BUT NICK DELAURENTIS WOULD SCORE PSU'S 3RD POWER PLAY AND HIS SECOND GOAL OF THE GAME 17 SECONDS LATER. GEORGE MASON WOULD MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS VERSUS THELIONS IN GAME TWO, BUT IN THE END, THE RESULT WAS THE SAME. THE PATRIOTS WOULD SLOW THE PLAY DOWN IN THE FIRST PERIOD AND HELD THE LIONS AT BAY. LUK DEVORSKI WOULD SCORE HIS FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL AT 12:07 OF THE FIRST PERIOD ASSISTED FROM CONLAN SODROSKY AND NICK DELAURENTIS AND GIVE THE LIONS THE LEAD 1-0 AT THE END OF ONE. THE SCORE WOULD REMAIN THE SAME UNTIL SOPHOMORE BEN KINCH WOULD SCORE ON THE POWER PLAY FROM SODROSKY AND DELAURENTIS AT 12:32. KINCH WOULD THEN TALLY AGAIN SHORTHANDED FROM JEFF NELSON LATE IN THE SECOND PERIOD, GIVING THE LIONS A 3-0 LEAD. PSU WOULD HOPE TO GET OFF TO A FAST START IN THE THIRD PERIOD, BUT SURRENDERED A GOAL 14 SECONDS IN. "THE MOST IMPORTANT SHIFT IS THE ONE RIGHT AFTER A GOAL IS SCORED." 25 SECONDS LATER JEFF NELSON WOULD RESTORE THE LIONS TWO GOAL LEAD. HOWEVER, LESS THAN A MINUTE LATER GEORGE MASON WOULD SCORE AGAIN. THIS WOULD BE AS CLOSE AS THE PATRIOTS WOULD GET. CONLON SODROSKY WOULD RESPOND WITH ANOTHER PSU GOAL 18 SECONDS LATER, ASSISTED BY NICK DELAURENTIS AND LUK DEVORSKI. FRESHMAN STEVE FEDENA WOULD CAP OFF THE LIONS SCORING WITH HIS FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL WITH 2:59 REMAINING, GIVING THE LIONS A 6-2 VICTORY AND A 3-0 START. THE LIONS FACE OFF WITH RIVAL CAL U, FOR THEIR THIRD GAME IN THREE DAYS, IN SUPPORT OF THE MARIO LEMIEUX FOUNDATION MONDAY OCTOBER 7 AT 8:20PM AT ROSTRAVER ICE GARDEN.
