LIONS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AGAINST RMU

Sunday, January 27, 2013

When you spot a team a four goal lead, it becomes extremely difficult to overcome that large of a deficit.  However, with their playoff hopes on the line, the Lions almost pulled off a miracle.  Robert Morris would take an early 4-0 lead and it looked like the Colonials were yet again going to run away with the game early Sunday morning at Galactic Ice.  Then late in the first, freshman Brandon Herrman would break Andy Morlando's shutout.  Then for the next two periods the Lions would push the Colonials to the limit.  the teams would trade off two goals a piece in the second.  Freshmen Jeff Nelson and Ben Kinch would add second period goals for PSU.  The late goal by Kinch with eleven seconds remaining in the period would provide a spark for the Lions.  For the next twenty minutes, the Lions would dominate.Herrman would score his second goal of the game narrowing the score to 6-4.  With the goaltender pulled and extra attacker on, RMU would ice the game with an empty net goal.  Zach Sheirko would turn away 37 of 43 shots.  Herrman would also add two assists.  Kinch would also add two assists. Jeff Nelson, Brian Kruser, Matt Torello, and Scott Palmer would also add assists.  Coach Lantz had this to say about his Lions team..."I told the team after the game I was very proud of them and how they responded today.  For two period we were the better team and these kids just didn't quit.  We are young team of freshmen and sophomores, who week after week play teams that have played together for four and five years." The Lions get another shot at Robert Morris next Friday night at 10pm.
