HOPE COLLEGE ROUGHS UP LIONS 14-2

Friday, October 12, 2012

IN THEIR FIRST GAME OF THE SCHUPAN TOURNAMENT, THE PSUA LIONS WERE ROUGHED UP BY HOPE COLLEGE 14-2.  THE LIONS GOT OFF TO A SLOW START SPOTTING HOPE 3 GOALS IN THE FIRST PERIOD.  PENN STATE WOULD BATTLE BACK IN THE SECOND AFTER MAKING SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO THE OLYMPIC ICE AND ENDED THE SECOND PERIOD 5-2. FRESHMAN CONLAN SODROSKY AND DUSTIN SHAFFER WOULD SCORE THEIR FIRST COLLEGIATE GOALS.  SOPHOMORE GOALIE DAVE WINEGARDEN PLAYED SOLID FOR TWO PERIODS FOR THE LIONS.  IT LOOKED AS IF THE LIONS HAD SOME MOMENTUM GOING INTO THE THIRD PERIOD, BUT HOPE COLLEGE HAD OTHER IDEAS.  HOPE WOULD SCORE 9 GOALS IN THE THIRD PERIOD.  5 OF THEM ON THE POWER PLAY.  COACH LANTZ HAD THIS TO SAY ABOUT THE TEAMS PERFORMANCE..."WE GOT AWAY FROM OUR STYLE OF PLAY AND SCRAMBLED IN OUR ZONE.  WE MADE SOME FIRST PERIOD ADJUSTMENTS AND SEEMED TO HAVE GAINED SOME MOMENTUM IN THE SECOND AND THEN JUST QUIT AND GOT OUTPLAYED BY A BETTER TEAM  IN THE THIRD PERIOD.  TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY AND I EXPECT 100% TURNAROUND FROM THE ENTIRE TEAM."  PENN STATE PLAYS NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY FRIDAY NIGHT.
