PSU ALTOONA CANCELS BIG TEN TOURNY TRIP

Saturday, December 17, 2011

DURING THE PAST TWO MONTHS THE PENN STATE ALTOONA ICE HOCKEY TEAM HAS BEEN RIDDLED WITH INJURIES AND ILLNESS.  CURRENTLY THE LIONS HAVE BEEN SKATING WITH EXACTLY TWO LINES AND NO SUBSTITUTES.  THIS MEANS SIMPLY THAT PLAYERS ARE GOING OUT EVERY OTHER SHIFT.  THIS CREATES EXCESS FATIGUE AND EVEN GREATER CHANCE OF INJURY.  THE COACHING STAFF FEELS IT IS IN THE TEAMS BEST INTEREST TO CANCEL THE BIG TEN HOCKEY TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED FOR JAN 13 THROUGH JAN 16TH AND FOCUS ON THE LAST HALF OF THE SEASON.  ALTHOUGH THIS IS A GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT AND I THINK THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD BONDING TRIP FOR THE TEAM, I BELIEVE THE OVERALL OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN FAR MORE DAMAGING  TO THE ORGANIZATION.
