GEARHART'S 2 GOALS POWER CARDIAC KIDS TO 6-5 WIN OVER LIBERTY

Saturday, January 22, 2011

WITH 2:10 REMAINING IN THE THIRD PERIOD, FRESHMAN DEFENSEMAN, J.R. GEARHART WOULD SCORE HIS SECOND GOAL OF THE NIGHT AND LEAD THE LIONS TO A IMPROBABLE COMEBACK VICTORY AGAINST LIBERTY 6-5. TRAILING 5-3 EARLY IN THE THIRD PERIOD, PSU ALTOONA WOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE AND SCORE THREE STRAIGHT POWER PLAY GOALS AND SPOIL LIBERTY'S UPSET VICTORY. BOTH GEARHART'S GOALS WERE CANNONS FROM THE POINT. J.R. WOULD END THE NIGHT WITH TWO GOALS AND ONE ASSIST. SOPHOMORE GREG "JANSEN" JOHNSON WOULD CONTINUE HIS HOT STREAK WITH A GOAL AND FOUR ASSISTS. JAMSEY ROSSI WOULD ALSO ADD A GOAL AND AN ASSIST, JOE MCGOLDRICK TWO ASSISTS, AND FRESHMAN MATT KELLY AND SOPHOMORE BILL GAFFNEY A GOAL A PIECE. CHRIS RYAN WOULD STOP 31 OF 36 SHOTS IN THE LIONS SECOND VICTORY OF 2011. COACH LANTZ WAS VERY IMPRESSED HOW THE TEAM HUSTLED, CAME TOGETHER, AND PLAYED AN INTENSE THIRD PERIOD. "WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THAT POSITION TO BEGIN WITH. WE HAD SOME SELFISH PENALTIES THAT WERE COSTLY, SEVERAL PLAYERS NOT HUSTLING, BACKCHECKING, AND PLAYING GOOD FUNDAMENTAL HOCKEY. I SHIFTED SOME LINES AROUND AND GAVE PLAYERS AN CHANCE TO PROVE THEMSELVES AND THEY MADE THE MOST OF THAT OPPORTUNITY." FRESHMAN TREVOR FISK AND SENIOR ASSISTANT CAPTAIN T.J. MCCORMICK STEPPED UP AND ADDED A MUCH NEEDED SHOT OF ADRENALINE TO A SLUGGISH LION UNIT. THE LINE OF MATT KELLY, SHEA WALDRON, AND T.J. MCCORMICK, WOULD HAVE ONE OF THEIR BEST GAMES OF THE YEAR AS A LINE. PSU ALTOONA WILL FACE OFF AGAINST LIBERTY TODAY AT 3:50PM IN A REMATCH OF LAST NIGHTS THRILLER.
