On Sunday afternoon, Penn State Altoona opened up DVCHC play against Shippensburg. The Lions would not disappoint the home crowd with multiple goal scorers. Assistant captain Andrew Duey would continue his hot hand with the hat-trick and David Westbrook and Tyler Bruno would chip in two goals a piece. Following the script from RMU, Andrew Duey would strike first with the opening goal 1:48 into the contest and the Lions wouldn't look back. Tyler Bruno(Westbrook, Halpin) would tickle the twine. Ben Pfeilstucker(Park) would score his first collegiate goal. Eddie Asante would win the Luchador MVP mask, for his offensive and defensive efforts all over the ice. Asante would not only score his first collegiate goal (Kearney, Strang), but assist on two others. Captain Christian Strang (Asante) would put PSU up 5-0 as the Lions would continue to roll. The Nittany Lions would conclude the first period with goals from Duey (Pfeilstucker) and Westbrook (Shivas). End of first PSU 7-1 out shooting Shippensburg 25 to 7. Penn State would start off the second period much like the first with Duey completing the hat-trick. Defensemen Clayton Landis, would score his first collegiate goal (Asante) with a rip from the point. Westbrook would net his second goal of the game from Evin Hefler, giving the Lions a 10-1 lead. Shippensburg would tally on the power play cutting the deficit to 10-2 to end the second period, when Jake Fabricant would take two minutes for slashing. Shots at the end of the second PSU 46 Shippensburg 13. Hefler would open up the 3rd period with an assist from Peter Shivas. Tyler Bruno would score another Lion goal unassisted and Kearney would cap off the Lions scoring from Strang. Final Score PSU 13 Shippensburg 2. Sophomore goalie Roan McCormick would turn away 15 of 17 shots for his first win of the season. Penn State opens up the weekend 2-0 with a long season and lots of work to do. Next up for Penn State is Cal U on Friday Night at 10pm at Galactic Ice.
