PSU ENDS SEASON WITH A WIN / PLAYOFF SCHEDULE SET

Sunday, February 18, 2024

Sometimes momentum can carry a team a long way, and that's exactly what the Nittany Lions are hoping for. After dropping their previous three games (one in overtime and one with 30 seconds remaining), PSU Altoona was looking for a spark heading into the DVCHC Playoffs. And they found that spark against a Carnegie Mellon team that had bested them in their two previous contests. The Lions would send a message early and often, en route to a 7-2 victory. Dominic Corrado (Duey), would open the scoring for PSU. Ty Morrison (Gocheaur) would make it 2-0 at the end of the first. The Lions would build on that lead, scoring 3 goals in the second period. Danny Connell would find the back of the net on a snipe (Gocheaur) and on a breakaway (Fabricant and Gocheaur). Evan Heffler would then use his backside assisted by Erik Jones to make it 5-0 at the end of two periods. CMU would strike early in the 3rd cutting the lead 5-1, until Logan Gocheaur would score his first collegiate goal. Jaegar Witte would add PSU's 7th goal. The Lions now head East on February 24th at 6:15 at Iceworks for the semifinals of the DVCHC playoffs. Psu will run into a familiar foe in Kutztown as the teams split the season series. This expects to be a great game and the winner will face-off against the F&M Diplomats on 2-25 at 10:30am at Ice Works.
