PSU ALTOONA 1-1 AFTER FIRST WEEKEND

After opening weekend, the PSU Ice Hockey team went 1-1 losing to Division 1 Duquesne Dukes 9-1 and winning against CHE rival PSU Behrend 7-3. The Lions skated even up with Duquesne, only giving up 3 even strength goals. Penalties would be the Lions demise as the Dukes tallied for 6 power play goals. Highlight of the game was Freshman Trevor Fisk's goal with 24 seconds remaining in the game, breaking the Duke's goalie's shutout. Chris Ryan stopped 38 of 47 shots. In the Sunday morning game PSU Altoona rebounded with a 7-3 victory against PSU Behrend. The Lions would start slow allowing Behrend to strike first blood. However, PSU Altoona would score the next four goals and never look back. Freshmen defenseman, Steve Bullard would tie the game at one with a slapshot from the point. Then freshman Andrew Plate would score the first of his 3 goals in netting the Lions first Hatrick of the season. Will Gaffney would also light the lamp twice and Patrick Kinch also added a goal. Sophomore Jamsey Rossi would add three assists. PSU Altoona Goalie Chris Ryan would stop 33 of 36 shots. Penn State Altoona's next game is Friday Night against South Division rival, Saint Vincent. Face-off is at 5:30.
