LIONS DROP 2ND IN A ROW, 9-0 TO UPJ

Monday, October 28, 2019

After a very competitive loss against the IUP Crimson Hawks, PSU Altoona hit the road against a very strong UPJ team. UPJ peppered Hayden Douglas early and often with 14 shots in the first period, finally beating the sophomore goaltender at 11:21. PSU struggled to generate any offense totaling 4 shots on goal (3 from freshman Dominic Hart). The Ice Cats would lead 3-0 after one period. PSU would try to pickup the tempo in the second period and were out shot 21-7. UPJ would add another 3 goals and would end Hayden Douglas's night. With goaltender switch and line adjustments, PSU played with a little more desperation and grit. Even though, the Lions were out shot 16-8 in the third, it was probably the best period of the night. Johnstown would add two more goals and complete the shutout. Coach Blair had this to say about the teams' performance. "We are a young team and got outplayed tonight. This is only our second game and we have to get better now. We have to simplify our game and do the basics (take care of our house and generate opportunities). There is a lot of talent on this team and I know they can turn it around." Morgan McDermott turned away 14 UPJ shots in the third period. PSU's next game is Saturday November 2nd against Kent State at 2:30 PM at Galactic Ice.
