LIONS LOSE HEATBREAKER IN OVERTIME

Monday, October 13, 2014

Sunday morning, the Lions would lose a heartbreaker to Rowen University 4-3 in overtime.  PSU would strike first when Asdorian would connect from Gricco.  Rowen would take a 2-1 lead at the end of one.  Asdorian would net his second of the game from Gricco, after Rowen had iced the puck and were unable to change.  With fresh skaters on, Armen would tie the game at two.  Late in the second period, Rowen would capitalize on a power play and lead 3-2.  Defensman Micheal Ludwig (assisted by Vercellotti ) would then wrist a shot above the goalies shoulder to knot the game at three.  However, 55 seconds into overtime, Rowen would beat goalie Ryan Cornelius to the shortside for a 4-3 victory.  Coach Lantz commented afterwards on the game.  "I am very proud of the effort of our boys today.  They have nothing to hang their heads about today.  If we continue to play like this, we will win a lot more games than we will lose.  Out of all the teams I have coached over the years, this team ran the best dump and chase and neutral zone play I have seen in years.  We have some things to clean up in our own end, but I am very happy with how they played.  They played phyical, against a much larger team.  They played with speed, and the defense really stepped up today.  Each week week we are getting a little bit better."  Next up the Lions have a College Hockey East Weekend against Fredonia and PSU Behrend on the road.
