Sunday, January 19, 2014
IF YOU WERE NOT AT GALACTIC ICE ON SUNDAY, SHAME ON YOU FOR SIX WEEKS, BECAUSE YOU MISSED ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING GAMES IN PSUA HISTORY AS THE LIONS WOULD DEFEAT THE COLONIALS 3-2 IN OVERTIME IN THEIR PURSUIT OF A TOP TEN RANKING IN THE ACHA. RMU WOULD STRIKE FIRST BLOOD AT 9:05 OF THE FIRST PERIOD AFTER ALL THREE LIONS FORWARD GOT CAUGHT DOWN LOW AND DEFENSEMAN BRIAN KRUSER PINCHED AND PSUA GOT CAUGHT IN A TWO ON ONE. "WHEN YOU MAKE MISTAKES AGAINST GOOD TEAMS THEY MAKE YOU PAY FOR IT." HOWEVER THERE WAS NO PANIC IN THE LIONS LOCKER ROOM AND JEFF NELSON WOULD TIE THE SCORE AT ONE ON "RJ" POWER PLAY, ASSISTED BY THE KYLE LEES AND BEN KINCH. AT THE END OF THE SECOND PERIOD THE SCORED WOULD BE TIED 1-1. ONCE AGAIN THE LIONS WOULD START THE THIRD PERIOD ON THE PENALTY KILL AND THE LIONS WOULD NOT DISAPPOINT. PENALTY KILLERS, STEVE FEDENA, CONLON SODROSKY, BEN KINCH, JEFF NELSON, LUK DEVORSKI, DAVE BRAMELY, KYLE LEES, BRIAN KRUSER, JACK LAWN, AND ADAM BADOREK, WOULD PUT UP A SOLID WALL WITH A HUGE KILL. THE TEAMS WOULD BATTLE BACK AND FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE PERIOD, UNTIL A MISFORTUNATE SLASHING CALL WOULD PUT RMU BACK ON THE POWER PLAY. THEN WITH 1:11 LEFT IN THE PERIOD, THE COLONIALS WOULD TAKE A 2-1 LEAD. PRIOR TO THE FACE OFF, COACH LANTZ WOULD CALL TIME OUT TO GO OVER STRATEGY. AS SOON AS LIONS GAINED THE ZONE, THEY PULLED GOALTENDER ZACH SHERIKO FOR THE EXTRA ATTACKER. THE LIONS HAD A FEW CHANCES AS TIME TICKED AWAY, THEN WITH ONE LAST RUSH AS TIME TICKED DOWN SOPHOMORE BRIAN KRUSER WOULD SCORE THE GAME TYING GOAL AS TIME EXPIRED, FORCING THE OVERTIME PERIOD. SKATING 4 ON 4, RMU WOULD HAVE THE FIRST TWO CHANCE TURNED AWAY BY SHERIKO. THEN LUK DEVOSKI, CONLON SODROSKY AND BRIAN KRUSER WOULD CREATE AN ODD MAN RUSH AS KRUSER WOULD LIFT THE PUCK OVER A SPRAWLED OUT GOALTENDER CODY LEE FOR THE GAME WINNER ONE MINUTE INTO THE OVERTIME PERIOD. "I AM VERY PROUD OF OUR BOYS TODAY. THEY DIDN'T QUIT AND LITERALLY FOUGHT TO THE FINAL BUZZER. THIS TEAM IS COMING TOGETHER AT THE PERFECT TIME. THEY KNOW WHAT IS ON THE LINE GAME TO GAME, AND ARE GIVING IT 150%. IT IS GOING TO BE A GREAT RIDE TO THE END OF THE SEASON." ZACH SHERIKO WOULD STOP 33 OF 35 SHOTS IN THE WIN, AS THE LIONS IMPROVE TO 11-7. BRAIN KRUSER WAS PRESENTED THE MVP BELT, BY HONARY STICK BOY LIAM FEATHERS. THE LIONS FACE OFF NEXT FRIDAY AGAINST THE VULCANS OF CAL AT ROSTRAVER.
