SHERIKO STEALS SHOW AGAINST PITT GREENSBURG

THE PSUA NITTANY LIONS RETURNED TO THE ICE SATURDAY FOR THEIR FIRST GAME IN 2014 AGAINST THE BOBCATS OF PITT GREENSBURG.  THE LIONS CURRENTLY RANKED 14TH IN THE ACHA ATLANTIC DIVISION, NEEDED A QUICK START TO THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON, AND SOPHOMORE GOALIE ZACH SHERIKO WOULD BE  UP TO THE CHALLENGE.  "RIKO"  WOULD STAND ON HIS HEAD FOR THE LIONS TURNING AWAY 38 OF 41 SHOTS AND MAKE SOME SPECTACULAR SAVES, INCLUDING A PENALTY SHOT IN THE FIRST PERIOD.  PSUA PREACHED A QUICK START AND BEN KINCH WOULD GIVE THE LIONS THE LEAD ASSISTED BY JEFF NELSON AT 11:58 OF THE FIRST PERIOD.  THIRTY SECONDS LATER, CONLON SODROSKY (FEDENA), WOULD SNIPE GOALTENDER RYAN PALONIS OVER THE SHOULDER ON THE POWERPLAY.  UPG WOULD CUT THE LEAD IN HALF A MINUTE AND A HALF LATER, AS THE LIONS WOULD TAKE A 2-1 LEAD INTO THE SECOND PERIOD.  UPG WOULD TIE THE SCORE AT THE 12 MINUTE MARK OF THE SECOND PERIOD.  THREE MINUTES LATER JEFF NELSON WOULD SCORE ON THE POWER PLAY FROM CONLON SODROSKY.  LIONS WOULD LEAD 3-2 AT THE END OF TWO.  PSUA WOULD START THE THIRD PERIOD ON THE PENALTY KILL AFTER A CHECK FROM BEHND PENALTY ON ADAM BADORREK, AND IT WOULDN'T TAKE LONG FOR UPG TO CAPITALIZE AND TIE THE GAME AT 3.  A TRUE TESTAMENT TO A SUCCESSFUL IS HOW THEY RESPOND TO ADVERSITY AND THE LIONS WOULD DO JUST THAT.  SOPHOMORE KYLE LEES (DEVORSKI)  WOULD NET THE GAME WINNER WITH A SHOT FROM THE POINT.  CONLON SODROSKY WOULD NET HIS SECOND OF THE GAME ON THE POWER PLAY ASSISTED FROM BRIAN KRUSER.  JEFF NELSON (KINCH) WOULD PUT THE ICING ON THE CAKE NETTING THE LIONS 6TH GOAL.  COACH LANTZ SAID "THIS WAS A GREAT START TO 2014.  EVERY GAME IS SO IMPORTANT FOR RANKING PURPOSES FROM HERE ON OUT AND THE BOYS RESPONDED TODAY."  ZACH SHERIKO WOULD WIN THE MVP FOR HIS AMAZING PERFORMANCE AND HIS 8 WIN OF THE SEASON.  THE LIONS NEXT CONTEST IS SUNDAY AGAINST RMU.
